So, Mylo has been pulling like crazy more and more lately. It's really when he's going out on a walk, coming back he walks to heel no problem. He's just excited, but it was becoming a problem, especially for Sam.

This Sunday we got a prong collar for him and I have to say, I can't believe the difference it's made. He walks with a slack lead from the off and the slightest pull when stood still and he sits down. It's amazing.

When Sam saw it she thought it looked barbaric (as most people would). After showing her me pulling it while on my arm I actually put it round my neck, just to see what it felt like. She said I was an idiot (which i wouldn't dispute) but it felt completely comfortable, even when i applied some pressure. The force is distributed so evenly.

I'm not trying to convince anyone as most folks here are aware of their benefits and I don't want to go kicking anything off either:)

He's no problem with it going on either. Comes to me when i pick it up and stands perfectly still when I put it on.

Brilliant.

My 2nd topic is to do with toys and chewing. Mylo is incredibly destructive with his toys. He loves shredding rope toys and eating the bits. Tennis balls too don't stand a chance. His stools are rainbow coloured with all the bits of toy in them. He's just so damn greedy and can't stop eating or anticipating his next meal. This was worrying because we don't want him obstructing his bowel with a golf ball or whatever he finds. He runs everywhere when we're in the fields and grabs mouthfuls or grass and plants as he goes.

But toy-wise I was in the local pet shop and saw a rubber Kong thing, which you're supposed to stuff with food and let them lick it. I thought I'd better get the 'Kong Extreme' which has a picture of a Rottie on it and is made with extra reinforced rubber.

He's loved it since i gave him it last week and i haven't even tried putting food in it yet. It's also still completely intact. Maybe he likes the rubber taste, he gets his lower jaw jammed in the hole and just stands there, tail wagging with shoelace drool hanging from his cheeks. Hmmm.

The only downside is when he drops it on your foot, it's pretty heavy:)

Any other quality indestructible toy ideas?

Glad the collar looks as though it will make walks a more pleasant experience from now on.........he is a strong , high energy boy who needs it channeled positively Smile

I am sure there is an indestructible ball....'The Boomer Ball'........ I'm sure that the Bull Breed people rave about it.

The only toy Luka hasnt destroyed is his Nylabones, he loves them, they are about £8 for a size to suit him and he had one in the bedroom for nights and one in the crate, but we have lost one Confused

They do evenually wear and I know a lot of people dont like them as they are jaggy once chewed but Luka has never bled his gums from it and loves it

The Kong Extreme is black, cost about £14 and weighs over half a kilo! Defo not a toy to be throwing round the living room:)

the only 3 toys never to have succumbed to Otto's chewing are nylabone, kong and the indestructaball.

The nylabones do get jaggy but that helps clean their teeth.

For Christmas he gets a cuddly toy as treat - he rips it to bits.

the kong is good - I shove a banana or some peanut butter in and keeps them quiet, especially before you leave.

Indestructible ball - nylabone - all eaten!
WORRIED me sick about the jaggy bits making their way through.
Boomer ball is really tough. Unfortunately the Danes hated the noise and would not play with it. I gave it away.

Kongs do survive a bit longer but still get bits chewed out of them.
Nothing is Dane-proof.

Glad I dont have Danes Lorna Very Happy

I used to always buy 'stuffies' the cuddly toy type, the greyhounds and lurchers love carrying them around but alas no more allowed because of Luka destuffing them then ripping them to shreds Laughing

prongs are defo the best thing since sliced bread.

my boys chew on orbi balls and as yet have not been able to destroy them....the blue ones with the pink map of the world on them

the only other thing that lasts is any form of soft toy....dodge carries them about everywhere with love and care....bless him.

those of you who know dodge may be surprised at this as anything moving and furry this size he 'has' - neck broke in one swift shake of his head.

Hi, I have bought Skye a Puppy Kong where you can buy the Peanut Butter Paste to put down the sides. Does anyone know if you can use normal peanut butter on this instead of the Paste as it costs around £6.00 a tube.

I wasnt too sure if normal peanut butter would be bad for her stomach?

you can put just about anything in the kong. some people put their dogs dinned in them, you can use cream cheese as well. if you freeze it they take longer to get at it.
