As i think a few of you know i got Haig his own wee pet for Christmas, an entirely conventional pet... Came in the other morning when Haig was working and searched the tank to find no Crabby...he is very true to the typical traits found in the red claw.

He managed to climb his way out his tank (not entirely sure how) Thankfully we've weighted down the hood of the tank so he couldn't get far.

And Janis as per usual you were right looks like Stevo is a boy Smile He's now definitly lost his shyness and is frequently squaring up to me and Haig-very amusing lol.

ive had an aquatic crab, aquatic frog and tropical lobster in my fish tank before, however the lobster ("Eddie") was the most entertaining - the other two just sat on top of the filter all the time.

Eddie would sit below the filter, shuffle the stones and pebbles around to make a nest and come out for a daily spot of fishing with his scissor hands... Laughing Laughing

then i came home from Dublin one day and alison had murdered him and got lisa to dispose of the body and all evidence... Crying or Very sad
Evil or Very Mad

Hes a red claw crab. Smile

Yes Stevo was like that as well when i first set out his tank. Funnily enough pets at home assured me that the crab is too slow to catch fish and all my fancy tailed guppy would be fine. After a bit of research turns out large finned fish are a snack to them. Of course i woke up to four half eaten guppy and my otto i think died of exhaustion from being chased round the tank! There was nothing really for him in the tank before that so he just sat on the thermometer, but we now have a land area he loves and feed him live crickets, has a live rock which he loves to pick off and natural driftwood he likes to strip. Since thats went in the tank hes came into his own, before that i just found him boring and too spider like for my liking haha. + He doesnt hide as much as he used to. Hes doing so well we're having talks of getting a second crab in a week or so, so stevo can recover from his molt.

Haig's wanting a fidler to call it Hanson from Scary Movie 2!

How do you manage to keep so many small fish? Surprised Assuming you have a large tank? I only could afford a small one. Heres Haigs video of Crabby for 2 hours cut to a 2 min action shot.

1 cricket was harmed in the making of this video Neutral

Yeh he's set on it. He actually searched for about a week to find out the butlers name just so he could call the second crab the butler from Scary movie 2. But he will leave it up to me to get, so im going to be keeping my eye out for a female red claw. Apparently the tank is meant to reach a capacity of 2 crabs and they're social (despite wanting to attack each other all the time Rolling Eyes ) Im hoping he'll forget about the fidler when we're waiting to see how the two crabs respond to each other.

My prob is two males are very territorial, but female obviously possibility of her hatching babies which my tank will not cope with. However its unlikely for "domestic" crabs to mate apparently.
