Not long back from our walk in the field behind our house this morning. All was going great, had Hektor and Millie off for a wee while, no other dogs around, no deer, just enjoying the fresh air.

Got to the bottom of the steep hill climbing back up towards our back gate (both dogs on the lead) when an unknown Staffy spotted us from the top of the hill. Made Hektor sit in the hope that the dogs owner would get him on the lead. No such luck. When it became clear that the dogs recall was rubbish and he kept coming towards us I shouted to warn the woman that Hektor was not good with other dogs. Still no recall. The hill was really slippy so the woman was having trouble getting down to grab her dog. The inevitable happened, the dog got too close and Hektor went mental. The dog wasnt being aggressive but was not taking note of Hektors body language at all. I ended up on the deck with a demented Great Dane trying to get to the Staffy, Millie freaking because she couldnt get away (I didnt want to let her go incase she decided to join in or ran off never to be seen again). Still the Staffy didnt take the hint!!!! Owner still halfway up hill shouting for her dog. Heks leather training lead snapped (luckily I was holding the double thickness part nearest the clip so he didnt get away, that would have been carnage).

So I have scraped and scratched arms and a bruised cheekbone along with a headache where Hektor dunted me with his head (I think).

After I finally got my dogs into the garden I went to speak to the woman who was very apologetic. Her dog was a lovely Staffy, really friendly but I think I will be going back to bed to try to start the week again!
