Treats

I know they all love hot dogs, but I wondered what else everyone was using.

I try to mix it up with bits of dog food,cheese, hot dog and commercial treats mainly Coachies, JWB Nature's menu chicken . The idea is he won't just be stuffed with junk and won't know how good a treat to expect each time and has to work for the best ones. It horrifies me sometimes how many he gets in a day

Does any one have any dog treat recipies?

Carrots are quite good my two like them, what about trying out different veg and fruit to see what he likes and use them that way you are feeding him good healthy treats that won't affect his meals or make him fat

Livercake Recipie

this recipe is a labour of love as the making of it leaves
a very pungent aroma in the house therefore,
we recommend you try this recipe when your not expecting visitors that evening....
Ingredients

1 lb of pigs liver
2 eggs
1 bulb of garlic
1 lb of self raising flour

1....Place your pigs liver into a mixer and liquidise.
2....Then add your garlic & 2 eggs and mix together.
3....Gradually add self raising flour and mix together
until a stiff dough.

Alternative method

If using a small mixer follow steps 1 & 2 then remove half of the mixture before mixing in 1/2 a lb of flour thus avoiding clogging the mixer.
Next, do the same again with the remainder of the mixture.
Transfer to baking dish and microwave for 6-7 minutes
(based on a 750 oven) then cool.
Cut into manageable sizes, place in several freezer bags and freeze for future use.

A word of warning

As all dogs digestive systems are different, we can't guarantee
that your dog will be able to cope with this recipe however,
most dogs can cope with small amounts at a time.

That livercake recipe the dogs apparently love, never made it tho.

I just use sausage cooked then cut up into wee bits

liver cake, yummy I would suggest everyone try making it or get someone else and steal a bit of theirs. dogs love it, my friend makes it for her dogs for training you would never go back to anything else again

Liver...bake it (stinks)....cut it up. Voila. Tasty treats that are healthy, and my dogs love it. Although I get my granpa to bake it 'cos I can't face it!

I also give mine chicken, turkey, sausages, cheese, Coachies, Nature's Menu treats and Burns kibble. Barkers and Barkers Liver Treats they like too. I seem to end up with lots of free samples of food such as Burns, James Wellbeloved, Royal Canin etc, I also use these as treats.

I occasionally make my own treats. Plain flour, tuna, eggs and chicken stock, mix it altogether, put in to shapes and bake it.

Nicola I 'd like to try that. I assume you just mix it into a dough and cut it into little bits. How long do you bake it for? I used to bake liver and left it in til it was really hard. The trouble is Dale loves liver but it seems to have unfortunate results

I'm with you on the liver cake Marcella

But I do sometimes cook some liver then chop it up and bake it in the oven - doesn't smell too bad

the thought of mixing up the liver cakes is just too much to handle
