My pup has started to roll in what I assume to be Fox dirt(or something equally as smelly) when he is out. Due to this I now keep him on the lead the majority of the time. Has anybody had experience of this with their dog as I am hoping its just a phase? Apart from keeping him on the lead any other hints would be appreciated....
Thanks in advance |

i have only had the experience of this once. we were up at our local forestry and our great dane skye must have rolled in it. we never even seen her do it. she was covered and she was stinking. and to top it off she brushed against my other dog and covered him. as we drive to the forestry we had to put two stinking dogs in the car. when we got home we had to wash them outside. but even then the smell lingered. i think it lasted about 4 washes. and of course the car had to get valleted. but thats the only time that either of my two dogs have done it. is it always in the same area where ur dog tends to do it? x |

All times have all been in different places. Suppose it doesn`t help that foxes get everywhere. I plan to take him camping a lot so hope it is a phase as not keen on sharing a tent if he keeps that up.... |

lol Gypsy likes to do this from time to time. but only occasionally has she covered herself in it, normaly its just on her collar which is easy to wash.
try a long line and if you think he is going to role then tell him leave and give him a correction on the long line. start using the leave command at home first so he learns that it means he is not to touch something.
hope that helps. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Tomato ketchup, neutralizes the smell so rub it in .........
Pixel loves rolling in it.....well where we walk I think its badger, there are a load of setts at one bit and its her fav bit for rolling in it, but fox/badger, same minging smell and she seeks it out .........thats not what you want to hear tho is it...oh and she is nearly 9 _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

Yip..it's common
instinct tells them to disguise their own smell when they are hunting.......
hence they roll in something that does not smell of dog or other predators.....that has always been my understanding anyway.
Really stinks!
