Dexter has ripped every bed we've bought him so far and we're really needing to get him a few new ones but he has literally plucked the stuffing from every puppy bed and his pocket money isn't quite covering the rate of replacing them all!!! We've tried foam and fleece beds but both resemble snow shortly after Dexter gets his paws on them!! Can anyone recommend some hard wearing and durable beds that Dexter may not rip apart?! |

we had exactly the same problem. for some reason alfie never chewed his beds overnight but during the day if he was left he would pull the stuffing out them.
he has one of the big plastic beds with a stuffed soft bed inside. i was going to ditch the bed and just give him covers but didnt think it was that comfortable and he is a spoiled little mutt! i have wrapped the nice soft bed in a big fleecy dog blanket and for some reason that has stopped him chewing it? i think he would just start to nibble it but then once the stuffing was exposed he had too much fun pulling it out. but now with the blanket covering it he never gets to the stuffing....worth a shot? |

I had the same problem with Fred until I got a "Vet Bed", it's a Grey synthetic fur type thing, I'm not sure if it doesn't taste too good but it has outlasted all the other types I tried.
Fred was up to a fleece blanket a month at one point, you could always tell when you were bagging his poo what colour his blanket had been!!!
I got his from Ikea but they haven't had them in a long while, I think pets at home may have also had them..? |

on the same note if anyone knows where i can get one of those beds that looks like a trampoline can they let me know? would need to be giant tho. huey doesn't like normal beds they're too hot. he prefers a cold floor. apparently these trampoline like beds are great for dogs who like the cold.

Hi Frankie, what a fantastic idea. This would suit my big boy Boris perfectly as he gets a bit hot too. He also tends to chew, but he will hopefully grow out of this.
I found a kennel down south that have designed their own. the kennel name is messano golden retrievers. http://www.beamingbroadband.co.uk/seamons/services_for_sale_dogbeds.htm
Might get one for Boris see how he likes it and how long it take for him to destroy it! Good luck.

that looks great. i first saw them in austrailia, my cousin has a bernese mountain dog too and he used to lounge all day in it. the only thing i would say is i would prob prefer a mesh (trampoline style) base as it lets the air circulate under them a bit better.
every hit on google appears to be autralia on NZ tho.

They look excellent. I think the option of the mesh makes all the difference to heavy coated dogs, who have a tendency to overheat in our centrally heated homes! They are very reasonably priced too. What a great web site for agility equipment.
Thanks for that link

I got a really durable bed from Pet Beds Direct (http://www.petbedsdirect.co.uk/). I'd recommend looking there if anyone is after one. |
