Hello everyone!

I've just got my first 'own' dog (have had family dogs before) and I am determined to give him the best possible start in life and to make sure he grows up happy and contented! I'm so pleased to have found this forum and the club (I discovered it when searching for puppy socialisation classes!) I have already sent an email to Eleanor, and am hoping that we can get young Rufus off to a class in the near future!

Rufus is a miniature schnauzer and was 9 weeks old yesterday. He is a wee angel! I'm a very proud Mummy, and will post some photos of him in the photo section in a bit! I could talk about him for ages here, but I'll try to save it for later!

I live in Moodiesburn with my boyfriend Paul, I'm a digital librarian bv day, and Paul does project management in the NHS. Rufus is a 'first ever' dog for Paul, they are getting on really well.

I also love horses and riding, and have a 'share' horse called Maguire, he is a 16.2 IDxTB. and I have him three days a week, which is a big enough commitment for me just now! Also share the house with a cat called Freya (who is not impressed by Rufus's arrival!) and 5 rats named George, Huxley, Caramel, Molly and Ruby!

Apart from the animals, we are both politics geeks!
Looking forward to getting to know, and hopefully meeting you and your dogs!

Susan xx

Thank you guys!
Its so weird, as I was reading your posts before I joined, and you seem to have so much fun on your walks and things, I was a bit scared/shy about posting! But glad I joined now (yet another distraction for me when I am supposed to be working..as if Facebook and my horse forum weren't enough!!)

I am so looking forward to meeting you all now!

Oh, Kendal, OK, the rats.

Caramel is the oldest at over 2 now, she is a cream and beige hooded rat.
Molly is a Dumbo, she's a hoodie too, but white and very dark brown/black.
Ruby is a Siamese Rex, and gorgeous!

The boys..George and Huxley ,we rescued the boys from the animal lab at Stirling Uni, which was closing down, and the rats were going to be destroyed and used in dissection practice! They were only 10 months old, and had been used in behavioural experiments, like mazes. So we ended up with them, they are both white and brown hooded rats. They are so good and friendly, and had been living alone, so its fab to see them curled up together. They are not very adventurous though, and to be honest I think they prefer to be in their cage than to be out and about!

I will go try to post some photos! Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Hi Susan,

welcome to the forum, I'm sure you will find loads of help and advice from the people here........we are a friendly bunch. Both Suzanne ST and Enid also have minature Schnauzer's.

We have lots of people here who do and lots who don't attend the club or walks........no problem either way.

Thank you guys!

Oh, I would love Rufus to get to meet some more mini schnauzers! I don't know anyone else who has one! We went for this breed after puppysitting one for my Uncle, who lives up in Shetland, and after that we were converts!

I'll definitely want to join the club and do the walks..first step is waiting for Rufus to be fully innoculated, and I think puppy classes! I work, so Rufus stays with my Mum during the day, which I think makes it even more important that he has good, solid training, with both of us singing from the same hymn sheet, so to speak!

We do a 'puppy' walk on a Friday at 7PM, Cumbernauld House. Only puppies are allowed ( I bring my 2 GSD's who are very calm around puppies Very Happy ).

Plenty of pups are carried round the walk before their vaccinations are complete just to let them watch and get them used to being around other dogs.

Ooh...I bet he would love that! Although I also bet he would squirm and squeal to get down! I don't think that he is going to be a shy puppy, I think he is going to be a cheeky wee chancer, lol! (but you never know, perhaps its all bravado!)

I'm not sure if I can make it this Friday, I think we are going out for dinner, but definitely the Friday after, and then by the Friday after that he should be able to get down! Do I need to pay/join up before he comes on these walks? If so, could you please send me the details?
Thank you very much, its been so lovely to have such a friendly welcome from you all!

Hi Susan, Paul and Rufus.

You don't have to pay anything to come on the walks - and the classes are really reasonable, the dog training site tells you what to do. If I remember you come along to the club without the dog for the first time and register, I think the weekly fee is £1.50 or £2 ( pay for my two dogs and its ever cheaper that way) Laughing

A big welcome and looking forward to meeting you all. If you check the site there is a walk on most evenings - we are all addicted.
