Otto's only just got out into the wilds and has so far eaten horse poo and sick courtesy of the young lads who take to drinking their Buckie in the woods near us.
When he's on the lead he responds to "Leave it", but still needs a bit of work on the control off the lead. |

Apologizes, I am quite new with dogs. Why do dogs eat other animals poo? It can't taste nice.
Do they would eat my poo as well?
Thanks for helping. |

Bluechowchow
To a dog poo of varying kinds especially that of vegetarian animals such a sheep and horses seems to be a bit of a delicacy, I'm not sure of the reasons but it is a fact! It doesn't do them any harm but is mainly disgusting to us humans as it is not a practice we partake in however dogs are not humans and do many things we find disgusting such as sniffing/licking each other bums in a gesture of hello!!!!! rolling in poo and dead animals to disguise their sent and I think that is what you need to remember about topics such as this as there are many things such as sniffing bums that you can't stop your dog from doing altogether as you are taking away his/her ability to say hello to another dog.

I decided to try it for myself and can report that horse dung fried in some garlic with a nice glass of white is very tasty.
Don't mock the dogs - we don't know what we're missing |

Aye, he ate it as well.
Actually, I think Otto eating something he shouldn't has caused him a problem - he has all the symptoms of colitis, but I ain't a vet so he's off there tomorrow.
Very runny poos, once an hour, often straining but nothing coming out. And he's losing a bit of weight. We cut everything out except his feed, but to no avail. So poor boy is on a 24 fast until tomorrow at the vets.
He's otherwise in fine fettle and still full of life, but it's a wee shame. |

He seems fine - was his usual bouncy self on a walk this afternoon and is showing no signs of illness other than the poo. Hoped it would go away on its own, but it's not so best get him up the vet.
I was going up anyway as it's time to talk "the snip" - he's REALLY going to love me. Starved, bathed and Snip Talk all in one day. |

Jodie - the original subject of this thread, actually walked past horse sh*t today, off lead, with the aid of my whistle and some hot dog treats. I was extremely proud of her.
It just goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |
