can anyone help before i re mortgage the house to pay for yet more vet fees.
Yoda has a weeping eye. i have been using sterile swabs and boiled water which has been cooled down to clean her sore eye. The eye is slightly red on the sclera (white of eye) exudate is oozing from her eye.
Do you think it could be a retinal detachment? |

Hi Amanda. Know the feeling about vets bills Its our second home.
Anyway. Are you only cleaning one eye? Always try not to use the same bit of cotton pad twice eg one wipe towards the outside of the eye and discard.
If it has been going on for more than a couple of days I would seek veterinary advice. Eyes aren't something you can let get too bad.
Hope all goes well. |

Amanda, it may be a touch of dog conjunctivitis! Pretty common but usually does need eyedrops. Is there any green gunk ? |

yeah, lots of the dogs have had that. The vet will give you antibiotic eyecream. It clears it up no problem. Both our boys had it a couple of months ago. |

Hi Amanda
Bubbles had it as well. The cream works wonders and she didn`t seem to mind me putting it in her eyes _________________ My life belongs to a Collie |

You can save yourself a consultation fee at the vets an just pop to the chemist and buy Optrex eye drops for infected eyes. tesco sell them, an boots the chemist. Optrex do two sorts o eye drops an you want the ones for infected eyes they are meant for human use but are fine for dogs too.
Of course if you are not comfortable with this then you must go to the vets an pay their fee an medication.
Here is a link for you advocating its use for cats too, didnt have time to find a dog one as i just popped in quick, just in case you want to check for yourself about its suitability.
http://www.pcpdirect.co.uk/Pharmacy/Eye_Care/427_Optrex_Infected_Eyes_Eye_Drops_Contains_Chloramphenicol_10ml.htm
Tis your choice o course though.

yeah, I've used Optrex on the boys before ...................... bought the Optrex Infected Eyes when I had conjunctivis too, worked as well as prescribed drops.
Maybe worth a try Amanda. Think they're only about £3.50 or thereabouts. |

My two have had eye infections sometimes just like the way Yoda's sounds and they clear up very quickly with antibiotic cream. |
