i know this law has already been passed but i was still wondering what every one thought about it, i know there are mixed feeling about it.
i personally am going to miss it as i think a lot of breeds suite the docked tail and others don't.

I'm not so sure about this one. Personally I can see both sides of the argument. I think if it is purely for cosmetic reasons then no, but if it is for a working dog and can be justified then I can see the reasoning for it.
But in time dogs that have always been docked will look perfectly normal to us with tails! |

Sorry I won't miss it at all. Originally only working dogs tails were docked so therefore I think if your dog isn't going to harm itself by keeping its tail its should be left alone. Just my opinion of course. |

i think it should be left to the breeder to decide whether or not to dock.
when looking for a breeder of cockapoos we got some rotten and harsh replies to our queries about docking and dewclaws. our two are docked but my mum would have preferred them shorter more like the cocker. but i am happy with the length.
i am however unsure about what our third will look like as i do not know if the breeder we are going to will be able to dock as i know she breeds working dogs and as far as i am aware the docking law can be waved for them. i think
just a quick question (with out googling it) how do you think docking is done. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Meant to say, the walk last week, Pixel pulled her dew claw off, she is always doing it, I wish she had had the darn things taken off as a pup
I think for working dogs the tails should be off, I do like dogs with docked tails but I suppose we will get used to tails on rotties etc |

Doogle was docked by the breeder, the only thing we wish was different about him Never mind, he's 99.9% perfect! |

I think Doogle's bum wouldn't wiggle as much if he had a tail though! |

I think the docking of dogs' tails is totally barbaric and the sooner it is fully banned, the better, imo. |

I met a fully tailed Weimaraner a few months ago, and a couple of weeks ago I met a fully tailed Rottweiler, both had lovely, long, full wagging tails and, to me, made both breeds far more appealing. |

Nicola,
I thought it was banned a few months ago.......after the cut off date, docking, owning a docked dog or even importing a docked dog from overseas carries a maximum fine up to £5000.
Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can clarify this? _________________ John Thomson

mixed feelings I love my girls with their tails but think if it is need for working dogs then I'm ok with it. Personally I don't think most breeders know how to doc properly so I think that experienced breeders and vets should only be aloud |

I can understand why people want to continue docking but it really is for our own selfishness that its done. We think it looks better on some breeds. I have seen a lot of pups coming in with infected wounds and virtually nothing for the vet to work on to save what is left of the stump. Do people realise that it is how dogs help themselves balance and show their feelings? |

I think that if it a working dog then prob should still be allowed at long at is done by a vet, otherwise its prob better not to. |
