All the dogs were running around last night on their night time PP's and I heard Pixel scream and come running in limping, we couldnt work out where, till we noticed her tail hanging funny.......Looks like she has damaged her tail
The vet has given us strong painkillers, anyone used Tramadol, either their self or the dogs, she has zonked out this morning and im not sure if its the painkillers or the pain
We also got steroids for the facial paralysis, which although better, is still affecting her ear and still making her drool a litte at times _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

Hi Shirley poor pixel is really having a bad time of it lately.
Are you sure its the tail the fact she was limping might suggest damage higher up than the tail. When we have had greyhounds damage tail its usually can be seen ( slight bend or felt as you run your fingers down the tail). If you do feel it then we have used tape to give support to the tail while it heals careful on type of tape as can be sore to remove if adhesive too strong. We use micropore tape as this can easily be cut off. If the tail has been a severe break then we have had to get the damaged end removed by vet. Given she squealed I would think she might have jarred her lower back and sometimes a visit to chiropractor can work wonders with this type of injury. If you suspect that it is this let me know we know a guy who does this and is quiet reasonable only thing is he comes up once a month from Manchester and not sure when he is next due up.
Have never used the pain killers so sorry no info on that.
Hope she is not in too much discomfort |

Tramadol has anti depressant and sleep inducing qualities Shirley - that's what's zonking her out.
Hope pretty eyes gets better soon _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

Maureen, she seems to have stopped limping, she was only limping for a bit last night but she has a lump at the top left on her tail, but its very painful if you try to raise her tail too, she even snapped at the vet, which she never, ever, ever does, it was a air snap thankfully and no malice but it is obviously very, very painful.
I will see how the tail heals and if I think she needs the chiro, I will give you a wee shout, hopefully she will be fine soon, let me know when the chiro is due up anyway if you know just in case
Jack, that could be it then, we are back from shopping and she seems a bit more awake and although settled down again with us she isnt out of it now _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

Yep that'll happen Shirley. As she first takes the Tramadol it'll hit her like a ton of bricks then as the effects start to wear off she'll start to come round again......just in time to pop her next pill
If you don't want to use tape to support her tail try a lint bandage, tightly wound and secured. I'd recommend applying this about 30 minutes after she's had a pill that way she'll be nice and zonked out and less likely to feel the pain. You'll need to straighten the tail as much as possible so it doesn't knit back together all kinked.....keep us posted how she gets on _________________ Staffies are my life! aww shirley so sorry for pixel it all happens at once. I had yoda at vet tonight she was limping. She has skinned her foot pad.
Tramadol are very strong. Just keep an eye on her. She will feel sleepy and may even be sick if that happens contact vet as they may not agree with her. Tramadol are in relation with dehydracodine sometimes known in previous years as DF118's.
I hope she gets better soon. Give her a big hug from us. |

We were at the vets again on Wed for a wee check up.....she has in all probability broke her tail, right at the top but without an xray we wont know for sure, but since where it is they cant really do anything and as long as it doesnt bother her once she is off the tablets she will cope fine and no point in an xray the vet says ( I do love my vets )
Her face is another matter, its still the same, def. not as bad as at the start but there is a def. paralysis there, she is on steroids but the vet says, they can be left with some paralysis, it is like a bells palsy type thing and can come on without any reason, or can be an infection somewhere in the ear or brain. since it has got better since the start is promising but if she is left with a slight droop to her mouth a droopy ear and her 3rd eyelid coming over as she blinks, this will only add to her charms im sure
We are on medication for 2 weeks and then see if everything is healed or better anyway, tho my we girl may not be able to sit on hard floors for a long time, we can cope with stand and down for most lessons _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen
