I have just booked Fergus in for the above and have been told that the price is £34.50. Although I am having him vaccinated I just thought that the price has become quite high.
Does anyone else pay this to have their Annual Vaccination.
Thanks,

hi christina
i paid the same fees for booster vaccs for my dogs. I know that there is a lot of controversy about whether the booster vaccs are required or not but I'm too scared not to give them it.

we have a cocker at the kennels who was spending the week with us 3 weeks ago. on the second day we had to rush him to the vets, he needed 3 blood transfusions as something kept bringing his blood count down. he seems better now but the vets dont know what caused it.
they said it could be a virus a parasite or vaccinations. but they can never be sure, and dont know if it will happen again. the wee cocker is only about 8 years and was always full of beans, he is better but not back to his old self.
some vaccinations can last up to 5 years but if you want to go to a training class or book into a kennel you need to vaccinate every year.
im taking Echo for hers tomorrow morning. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Hektor was at the vets yesterday for his booster £34.09 it cost us. I didnt always get Ollie done in his long life, he got to 13, but I like to have the option of using the kennels and so our 2 get done. Dont get the ferrets or the cat done tho..

I can't remember but I am never surprised by how much the vet costs even for little things.
Our old dog lived to 16 without a booster in her life, but you need them if you want to put them in the kennels or use a dog boarding service or take them abroad.
And I think immunisation does help to keep nasties at bay in the wider dog population though I do think it's a bit of a racket. |

We went for years without boosters with our last 2 dogs, but we didnt need kennels as my parents watched them when we went away.
Tess and Belle's are kept up to date as we now use kennels for boarding when we go on holiday. But I'm not convinced about the need for yearly boosters. _________________ Parsons Russell fanatic |

Boosters have lapsed in this household. With 6 to pay for and times being so hard it was a necessary decision. My cats are all housecats and only ever venture into the garden with us when we go out so I'm not unduly concerned about them. My dogs I do worry more over and plan to get them back up to date as soon as finances permit but I DO think you pay over the odds and I don't think yearly boosters are truly necessary. A documentary I watched once said that one brand of the vaccinations is actually effective for up to 4 years and others for at least 2 - don't know how accurate it was though!
I agree if attending a training school or kennels then all dogs should be fully vaccinated to minimise the risk _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

its not just that, i had to turn a regular client away at the kennels a couple of moths ago because her dog was due its vac cover a month before it was due to come to us. they were meant to be flying out that night, i still don't know if the got to go on holiday or not.
if we had let the dog stay and we got a surprise inspection from i think its the dog Worden who dose the checks not my boss would have gotten into trouble.
we spoke about it at work and the problem with changing the vacc to what ever the label says eg 4 years means that people would forget. i mean the owner i have just motioned said that they got their reminder in from the vets but it came at the same time as the news that a relative died so they forgot about it. it wasn't till i looked at the card and it said June and we were almost at the end of July that i had to tell them i couldnt take the dog, they looked very upset my boss walked with them back to their car giving them names of dog sitters in the aria that might take the dog without its vacc. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Very upsetting for those owners kendal but i have to agree with the decision made no matter what the circumstances, difficult though they obviously were. My vet is quite flexible and would do a booster vaccination up to 3 months I think after it was due - anything beyond that and you have to start from scratch again.
Some vets don't even have a diary system in place to remind their clients that vaccinations are due - my memory is shocking so it's just as well ours have _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |
